Pinoy Movie Fridays: Pangako Ikaw Lang

I'm sorry if it took a while...anyway, for this Friday's "Pinoy Movie Fridays" section, I'll be reminiscing one of my favorite rom-com (romantic comedy) films entitled "Pangako Ikaw Lang" topbilled by Aga Mulach and Regine Velasquez. Yes, this is the second Aga-Regine box-office hit film as a tandem after their first film "Dahil May Isang Ikaw". And yes, I am biased. ^^

Film: Pangako Ikaw Lang (Only You, I Promise)
Year: 2001
Director: Joyce Bernal
Genre: Romantic-Comedy
Theme Song: "Pangako" sung by Regine Velasquez
Cast:
Aga Mulach           - Vince
Regine Velasquez   - Cristina
Bobby Andrews      - Bert
Robert Arevalo      - Cristina's Father
Sherilyn Reyes       - Annie
Bojo Molina          - Victor
Charlie Davao       - Vince's father
Evangeline Pascual - Vince's mother
Ricci Ocampo        - Krystal
Rufa Mae Quinto   - Peachy

The movie starts with the womanizer Vince (Aga Mulach) talking to some random girl on the phone making the moves while driving home. Cut to Krystal (Ricci Ocampo), Vince's girlfriend, crying on the phone and telling that he is such a womanizer and with her cursing him that she wishes him to die. And with that, a truck crushes his car and it falls to its side badly damaged that it would be a miracle for anyone to survive the crash. Meanwhile, in the other side of the city, Cristina, a flower arranger and businesswoman for all occasions, is hurrying to the hospital to visit her father with cancer. Coincidentally, its also the same hospital where Cristina's father is confined; not knowing who the other was, she shares the Emergency Room with Vince's parents. En route to Cristina's visits to her father, she passes by the room where Vince has been laying in comatose, she talks to him like an expected visitor and this is where the wheels of fate starts to turn.

They may be the best of friends in the hospital, Vince laying in comatose and Cristina telling him random stories, reality struck them. After Cristina's dad goes home, Vince finally wakes up from his coma (due to her almost crushing his life machine), believing that Cristina is his guardian angel and vows to make things right with his life; leaving his womanizing ways and getting back with his girlfriend while looking for the "guardian angel" who he believes saved his life. Meanwhile because of Cristina's hyper attitude, when she almost crushed Vince's life machine, she thought that her "hospital friend" is dead. When she finally sees her "hospital friend" alive and kicking, she sighs in relief not knowing that cupid's arrow is about to come in between the both of them.

This film once again has all the formula of a rom-com story: love, comedy, hurdles, family problems, of childhood friends who has this unrequited love towards the female protagonist and of love which conquers all. This may be the second movie for the Aga-Regine tandem but this is far from the story of their first blockbuster. They may have some similarities but somewhat different in formula. Similar yet different.

The scene which made my heart hurt? It's a secret, watch the movie everyone but the heartwarming scene is the part when Cristine and her dad are slow dancing while Cristine is singing "Someone to watch over me". ♥

My favorite scene:

(I just remembered something that happened when I was at the hospital laying there, just like this praying and wishing that my life would be given a second chance. I promised that I would right all my wrongdoings...now I know why I was given a second chance in life...I'm getting married)

Cristina: alam ko..saan? (I know, where?)

Vince: depende sayo (your decision)

Cristina: ha? (what?)

Vince: ikaw lng ang tamang nangyari sa buhay ko (you're the only thing right in my life)

Cristina: kahit sasaang simbahan...(smiles) sagot ko ang bulaklak ha? (in any church...but the flowers are mine okay?)

How sweet it is to be loved like that. ♥
Till the next Pinoy Movie Fridays...

Thus, the new season begins...

It is already September, well.. 6 days into it, and we all know what that means right? New seasons of my favorite series! *throws confetti* I'm going to write blogs on the first episodes of the season but that's another story. Here are the series which I will be religiously following again on this 2012 season:

1.  Glee Season 4 (Premieres: Thursday, September 13)
Well, since most of the Glee regulars have already graduated high school, it would be fun seeing two different worlds (college and high school) interact. Will they mature? Will the forget everyone in the glee club?

2.  Bones Season 8 (Premieres: Monday, September 17)
My most favorite crime-forensic anthropology series is finally returning! Last season, Booth was deeply hurt by Brennan running away taking Christine as a fugitive all because Pellant framed her. Now will she be able to prove her innocence?

3.  How I Met Your Mother Season 8 (Premieres: Monday, September 24)
Season 7's season finale consisted of 2 episodes and it made me happy. I was shocked when Victoria (Ted's season 1 love interest) came into the picture once again but what shocked me the most is somewhere down the road...Barney will get married to Robin? No! Robin is forever for Ted.....

4.  Castle Season 5 (Premieres: Monday, September 24)
Last season, it was evident that Castle was disappointed in Beckett due to her obsession in finding her mother's murderer. I thought it was the end of their partnership, but the ending proved me wrong. Now, I'm excited with the aftermath.

5.  New Girl Season 2 (Premieres: Tuesday, September 25)
The whole gang is back! And after me loving everything about this show, I'm so glad that this show is back for a whole new season. Now I'm wondering how will the Cece-Shimidt love turn out into..and I'm still definitely rooting for a Nick-Jess romance.

6.  Once Upon A Time Season 2 (Premieres: Sunday, September 30)
Magic is coming. This is the most appropriate sentence on what will happen on the second season. It is said that the first episode of the season is minutes after Rumplestiltskin freed magic in Stonybrooke once again. I'm excited on the new fairy tale characters that will come their way.

7.  Gossip Girl Season 6 (Premieres: Monday, October 8)
This is going to be bittersweet. After an amazing 5 years of following this drama, it finally draws  to a close. This is going to be a final season and I'm expecting a resolution on all the characters. Why is Dan and Georgina together? Is Serena going back to her old ways? What is going to happen to Nate? To Lily/Rufus/Bart triangle? And I wish Chuck and Blair will be together forever. :D

8.  American Horror Story: Asylum (Premieres: Wednesday, October 17)
This is not a continuation on the original American Horror Story arc (which I loved watching and really crept me out) but another side of the eeriness which is American Horror Story. They will now focus on the Asylum setting and I'm excited to watch familiar actors in season 1 playing different characters for season 2. The casting of Adam Levine is also a plus.

I will be also watching a new sitcom that would be premiering this season and that is The New Normal (Premieres: Tuesday, September 11):
This series, which is produced by Ryan Murphy (also producer of Glee and American Horror Story) focuses on the life of a surrogate mom for 2 gay guys who wants to have a child. I think this sitcom would be an interesting one.

Onward to the new season...

RIP Michael Clarke Duncan

Michael Clarke Duncan
(December 10, 1957 - September 3, 2012)
Died at age 54 due to heart attack.

I was in shocked when my brother TJ told me that Michael Clarke Duncan was dead. At first the name didn't register but when I googled him, there were so many RIPs with regards to his death today. I am saddened because even though he had many notable characters through the years, and him being voices to animations, I loved his character in "The Finder". "The Finder" is a spin-off series of one of my favorite series "Bones". Though it only had 1 season, I enjoyed every episode. He plays a former lawyer named Leo Knox and best friend to Geoff Stults character, Walter Sherman. What I remember is Walter's affectionately calling him "big guy".

Michael Clarke Duncan as Leo Knox

The Finder

He was also the antagonist Kingpin in Daredevil.

The Finder characters:
Geoff Stults as Walter Sherman
Michael Clarke Duncan as Leo Knox
Mercedes Masohn as Isabel Zambada
Maddie Hasson as Willa Monday

Hollywood has just lost another great actor.
He will surely be missed. :(
