Into the Silver Screen: The Hunger Games

March 25, 2012
Sunday

FINALLY! The Hunger Games movie is here! I have the first book since I bought it in 2010. Didn't know that it would be huge hit in the Philippines (of course I knew that there were great reviews of this book overseas, that's why I decided to try it). Also bought Catching Fire and even asked for the last book MockingJay last year as a Christmas Party gift

Me and my sister Marion planned to go to Makati, and watch The Hunger Games (it took a lot of persuading on my end to actually get my sister to read the book...it took her a year to finally give in. YEY me!)

We went to Greenbelt and to reserve tickets for the four of us (Mommy, Marion, TJ and me) of course Marion paid for it all...YEY! But it was difficult to get good seats as it was all taken. OH NO! So we decided on having the 5:10PM movie and that we would be broken into two...(2 rows with available 2 seats each left)

TADAH~

And because I was having my book signed; Marion, mommy and TJ went along first...meaning that I would miss the first few scenes of the movie. I assured them that they should go since I already knew what happened since I read the book *wink* but deep inside I was slightly sad that I did not begin the movie. I began the movie after the reaping where they were on the train to the Capitol.

Fast forward to Hunger Games~~~

After the movie, I had mixed emotions. Firstly, Portia was almost no where in sight (he..he..he..) Cinna was exactly the way I pictured him to be...and who would forget the eccentric Effie Trinket. Haymitch wasn't what I expected him to be though, for me...he was somewhat buff and too much bearded as well as an alcoholic..but oh, well...he would do, I guess. President Snow was exactly I imagined him to be, calm but ruthless. I also expected Gale to be more charming (?) but that'll do I guess...he was a subtle charm. Peeta was exactly the way I imagined him to be. (am I too biased? Team Peeta forever!) Although, Katniss was also exactly the way I imagined her to be, there was something in her personality that was quite different..she smiles a lot, whenever her and Peeta talks..I imagined her just to smile subtly..oh well...maybe that is Jennifer Lawrence's interpretation of the Katniss character. As usual Clove and Cato are so irritating that I wanna give a big round of applause to the actors. Even though Rue's scene was short (as it was in the book) she definitely made an impact...and even made me cry.

My verdict? Although the movie has lots of cuts compared to the book, that was somewhat expected though..everytime they make a movie out of a book..they cut scenes,  BUT thankfully they did cover the important parts. I especially loved Rue's scene. The way I cried when I read the book was the same as when I cried at the movie <- and believe me, I hardly do that. The last time I cried as much as I cried while reading the book was when Dobby died. (Harry Potter 7) They did the scene justice, Katniss and Rue's scene was so heart-warming and sad. I was disappointed a little bit though because even though Katniss made that sign to acknowledge District 11, they didn't do the scene where District 11 gave their thanks to Katniss by giving her their specialty bread.

And of course I love the Katniss-Peeta scene in the cave...it was exactly the way I imagined it. ♥♥♥

One change is that they introduced parts from Catching Fire (like Districts starting to rebel), President Snow talking to the Gamekeeper...and they even showed how the gamekeeper died, they never talked about that in the books..they only gave the impression that he died.

Here is the song for the movie "The Hunger Games" sung by Taylor Swift feat. The Civil Wars
I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, "I'll never let you go"

When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)La La (La La)
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound...
Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh oh oh. [x7]

I do recommend this movie. ♥ but a little disclaimer to all book addictus like me, YOU. WILL. BE. DISAPPOINTED. <- ah, but that is the effect of books turned into movies *sigh*

Here are my books... ^^ (hardbound of course...)

The 74th Hunger Games in the city of Panem will now begin...
May the odds be ever in your favor.
